Shrimp Haus History, the Idea…
One night while shrimping off the coast of beautiful South Padre Island, Schlitterbahn co-owner Jeff Henry and his crew imagined a restaurant providing fresh Gulf shrimp at affordable prices. He envisioned a restaurant with the beach inspired atmosphere on the Texas Coast. It was time to give waterpark guests, area residents, and vacationers on South Padre Island great food and an amazing experience. In honor of Schlitterbahn’s German roots – Shrimp Haus Restaurant was born!
Schlitterbahn Waterparks History
In 1966, along the banks of spring-fed river on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, Bob and Billye Henry and their three children began creating what would eventually become the world’s first water resort and the nation’s most popular summertime waterpark. The Henry’s relied on their own vision of combining water fun and resort accommodations into a family destination. Setting Schlitterbahn apart from anything else is its unique combination of state-of-the-art water attractions with a family-friendly atmosphere. Schlitterbahn introduced the world’s first surfing ride, the world’s first uphill water coaster, the world’s first tidal wave river, plus inner tubing on a scale never seen before. Schlitterbahn has been voted time and time again for having the world-best waterparks including the award-winning Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island.
